All of us living and working in Ayrshire - and indeed beyond - will be well aware of the magnificent community support given to raising funds to help give Vanessa Riddle receive the treatment she needs.
We ourselves have been taken aback by the work put in by so many of all ages and we are therefore delighted that Dundonald Links have been so generous in hosting this event which this year will see all proceeds go to the appeal.
The event itself will again be played over the quite magnificent Dundonald Links golf course in Ayrshire on the west coast of Scotland just 24 hours ahead of the annual Dundonald Games - the only difference between this and any other stabelford event is that Kilts are Compulsory!
The day is about enjoyment and added to the golf you will have access to the practice area and free range balls as well as Nearest the Pin, Longest Drive and the handicap stableford event - the four man team is a better ball stableford so you can even carry the odd non handicapper.
Entry is limited to 25 fourballs and full payment is required with the funds going to The Vanessa Riddle Appeal almost as soon as the fees come- we are sure to be subscribed very quickly so don’t hesitate to click on the Entry Page and get your application in. You can reserve a fourball today and pay by debit or credit card.
For those who just want to play great Ayrshire golf you could hardly do better than play 18 holes over the magnificent Kyle Phillips layout at Dundonald. The course is a wonderful challenge but remains a fair test of all golfing abilities with fast, three club greens, some wonderul pot bunkers, an abundance of dunes and some of the best laid out holes in Scotland.
And the Kilted Part?Last year it was optional; this year it is compulsory!
This is a kilted golf classic and Kilts are compulsory for all play. Glengarries, full highland battle wear, Claymore swords and Braveheart shirts and going commando are all optional.
While it's not yet been confirmed as an official part of the Dundonald Games (dates to be confirmed) it is the day before the games itself and the event adds a little bit of fun and offer players the opportunity to compete in their kilt with a special commemorative Targe being presented to the winner of, we believe, Scotland's only Kilted Golf Classic.
We look forward to welcoming you to both the Links and the Games and perhaps an extended stay in the Ayrshire area and of course helping a very brave little girl in her fight towards good health.
The inaugural event was won by Graham Barnes from Western Gailes Golf Club who won the inaugural Dundonald Games Golf Day with an excellent 31 points. He was tied with (Royal) Bathgate golfer Alan Gallacher but won it with a countback over the back nine.
The Nearest the Pin was hit by Graham's fellow director at Simpac, Tom Clarke whilst the Longest Drive was struck by Dundonald resident David Speirs.
We're not sure that Dundonald builder George Holland is advised to try retrieving his balls like this when wearing a kilt this year...
